About WreckHunt
WreckHunt helps you find the right junkyard, scrap yard or junk-car buyer before you drive there or hand over your car.
Why we built it
Most yards show four stars, so stars don't tell you much. The questions people actually have are different: will they have my part, what happens if it's bad, will they pay what they quoted, are they licensed, are they open now. WreckHunt answers those questions for each business, from what its customers wrote, what the business says about itself, and public records.
Who we are
WreckHunt is run by Team WreckHunt, a small independent team that builds consumer guides from public data. We are not a junkyard, a car buyer or a parts seller, and we are not owned by one.
Where our information comes from
The heart of every listing is what real customers went through: what they needed, whether the yard had it, what they were paid and how they were treated. We read 856,450 public customer reviews of these businesses and count what comes up, so you see the pattern instead of one loud review. We add each business's own statements, its website, public state license registers and EPA records, and every fact shows its source and date.
How we use software
Reading hundreds of thousands of reviews by hand isn't possible, so we use software, including AI models, to sort reviews into topics. People on our team set the rules, check samples of every topic before it can appear (it must be right at least 9 times in 10), and read random listings before a city goes live. No text about any business is written by AI: what you read is the business's own words, its customers' words, counts and records.
Editorial policy
- We show good and bad findings alike, with counts, and never call a business a scam or fake.
- We never publish names of staff, owners or customers from reviews.
- Nobody can pay to change or remove what customers say.
- When a business shows us a fact is wrong, we check it against a source and fix it.
What we cover
19,983 junkyards, scrap yards and junk-car buyers in our data, with city guides live for Fort Worth, Dallas, Houston, San Antonio, Phoenix and Tampa. We add cities once every listing in them has been checked.
How we stay independent
- Nobody can pay to change or remove what customers say.
- Every fact shows where it came from and when. How we check.
- Reviews written on WreckHunt are read before they go up and never edited. Review guidelines.
